Telstra is Australia’s leading telecommunications and technology company, offering a full range of communications services. Telstra’s ultimate purpose is to build a connected future so everyone can thrive. Telstra is proud to be helping people improve the ways in which they live and work through connection.

Telstra required a specifically designed storage system that fully matched their demand for supporting their packet-capturing software as a long-term project they wished to implement. DiGiCOR contributed careful attention to detail to their demands, which included hardware specifications and use cases, to design, integrate, and deliver the perfect solution to meet their needs as a long-term solution.

Challenges

Telstra required a clustered storage solution that could operate as a cluster and was compatible with their packet capturing software and Red Hat Open Ceph as an SDS (software-defined storage). The main issue was that the system created was not compatible with their packet monitoring software as well as Red Hat Open Ceph software technology.

In addition, the cluster solution needed to store data for a certain number of years is in line with the requirements of the federal data legislation. This creates a demand for trialling various components to ensure the correct storage and performance functions are required. Many first-tier competitors offer storage clusters but also lock clients in on future scalable projects, whereby expansion of solutions will not be compatible with different branded hardware.

Ultimately, the company desired a specified and unique solution for their storage and performance needs.

Objectives

  • Require a clustered storage solution that could operate as a cluster and compatible with their software and Red Hat Open Ceph as a SDS
  • The storage needs to be able to store data for a certain amount of yours, in line with the requirements of the Federal Data Legislation

How We Helped:

We offered a tailored IT solution that was compatible with Red Hat Open CEPH and met the specifications and legal requirements across their data-driven ecosystem. We understood our client’s workload demands and focused on different use case aspects such as storage density and usage, software compatibility, performance profiling, and scalability. Overall, fortifying a long-term hyperconverged, flash-based, high-performance storage solution that could be scaled up accordingly for future projects.

Red Hat Ceph

  • DiGiCOR D2242-DS228-NMDOR as Compute and Storage node functions
  • DiGiCOR S143-DS228-DR Controller node functions

The Result

The solution fulfilled the main priorities of software and hardware compatibility for Red Hat Open Ceph and packet capture. As a result, the company looked to expand their project by implementing disaster recovery technology and the success of other data centre locations across Australia with our help.

We were able to provide a local solution that met their purpose and specification requirements, paired with competitive pricing and the flexibility to make any necessary adjustments to the system. Not only did we offer high quality and suitable solutions, we also focused on delivering a high level of technical support and customer service through our expert representatives.
