Auscript is a company that delivers fast, precise, and secure recordings and transcripts. Every year, the company records over 100,000 hours of digital audio, analyses it using sophisticated software and then delivers 1.5 to 2 million pages of transcript for justice, business, government and law enforcement clients. With accuracy ratings the highest in the country (98.5%), Auscript is the market leader in mission-critical recording and transcription services. Their clients include the Department of Justice and Attorney General in Queensland, the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia, and the Federal Circuit Court of Australia.

Overview

In April 2013, DiGiCOR worked with Auscript. This situation requires Auscript to have a better IT infrastructure to assist them in providing the best service in their industry. DiGiCOR was at the service to help this company provide a mass quantity of reliable Rackmount systems that are compatible with their voice recording applications.

We engaged in numerous meetings and discussions with Auscript’s team to draw up the optimal solution for enhancing their performance. Following a thorough and meticulous analysis of the company’s requirements, it became evident that a substantial number of systems would be necessary to execute software for converting recordings to text while also storing the data. Consequently, three key challenges emerged in this endeavour.

Firstly, the deployment of two units per courtroom for high availability was essential, necessitating quiet operation to avoid disruption to court proceedings and recordings. Secondly, the system must possess ample processing power to handle audio recordings and utilize the software for transcription into text format. The primary challenge here lies in identifying a unit with sufficient processing capabilities while maintaining quiet operation.

Lastly, the final challenge revolved around procuring a system with a short depth of 1 RU. Additionally, affordability was a crucial consideration for Auscript throughout this project.

After several tests and evaluations, Digicor managed to provide Auscript with dual 1RU Servers that met all their requirements to run their in-house software applications. The server, with a sound capture card, was quiet enough to eliminate any interruptions to court proceedings and recordings and met the short depth 1RU form factor that was required.
