AUSCRIPT

Auscript is a company that delivers fast, precise, and secure recordings and transcripts. Every year, the company records over 100,000 hours of digital audio, analyses it using sophisticated software and then delivers 1.5 to 2 million pages of transcript for justice, business, government and law enforcement clients. With accuracy ratings the highest in the country (98.5%), Auscript is the market leader in mission-critical recording and transcription services. Their clients include the Department of Justice and Attorney General in Queensland, Family Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia, and Federal Circuit Court Australia.

In April 2013, DiGiCOR worked with Auscript. This situation requires Auscript to have a better IT infrastructure to assist them in providing the best service in their industry. DiGiCOR was at the service to help this company provide a mass quantity of reliable Rackmount systems that is compatible with their voice recording applications.

Challenges

We had several meetings and discussions with Auscript’s team to generate the best solution to improve their performance. After a complete and detailed investigation of the company’s requirement, it was clear that a significant number of systems would be required to run software to convert recordings to text, whilst storing the data. As a result, we found three challenges in this project.

Firstly, two units must be deployed into every courtroom for high availability, and they must be very quiet to ensure they do not interrupt court proceedings as well as recordings. Secondly, the system must have sufficient processing power to process the audio recording and use the software to translate this into text format. The main challenge in this scope is to find a unit with enough processing power while still performing quietly.

Finally, the final challenge was to bring a system with a short depth 1 RU. On the other hand, affordable price is also part of Auscript’s consideration in this project.

How We Helped

After several testing and evaluations, Digicor managed to provide Auscript with dual 1RU Servers that met all their requirements to run their in-house software applications. The server, with a sound capture card, was quiet enough to eliminate any interruptions to court proceedings and recordings and met the short depth 1RU form factor that was required.

Results

Digicor managed to provide Auscript with close to 1,000 units of the short depth (2 units back-to-back per 1U space) 1RU servers throughout the year, fitted into many law environments.

Due to the efficiency of these servers and Auscript’s software and sound capture cards, Auscript has been able to take the Australian justice, business, government, and law enforcement world by storm, acquiring the highest published quality ratings in the country with an unprecedented accuracy of 98.5%. Every day Auscript is deploying more and more of these servers in courtrooms around the country. Due to their value for money and ability to meet the client’s requirements, Auscript continues to use Digicor as their IT solutions provider.
